Membership Information
United Methodist Women is an integral part of the United Methodist Church. "In
every local church there shall be an organized unit of United Methodist Women."
(The
Book of Discipline 2000)

With approximately 1 million members, United Methodist Women is the largest lay women's organization of a major Protestant denomination in the U.S.A. The Virginia Conference United Methodist Women has over 30,000 members in almost 900 local units throughout Virginia. Chances are very likely that there is a unit in a United Methodist Church near you.
Women actively choose to become involved in this inclusive mission organization.
Membership shall be open to any woman who indicates her desire to belong.
Membership is for the woman who finds meaning in her church and is drawn to its fellowship, who wants to combine fellowship with study, worship and outreach opportunities, who feels she has gifts that are to be shared with others, who seeks a supportive community to affirm her own sense of purpose and commitment to God through Jesus Christ.
We welcome new members, and new local units, and are always excited to share
about the many ways that United Methodist Women are involved in mission, making
a difference, every day, in the lives of women, children and youth, around the world, and in our own
communities.
If you would like more information about United Methodist Women in the Virginia Conference, contact any of the
conference officers,
or the
district president from your area. Each of those officers is willing to help!
The people of The United Methodist Church are teaming
with Sports Illustrated, NBA Cares and the U.N. Foundation to eradicate the
deadly disease, malaria. Together, we have launched the Nothing But Nets
campaign.
Malaria kills more than 1 million children each year. These deaths can be
prevented by providing bed nets to protect families from disease-carrying
mosquitoes. Only $10 is needed to purchase a net and save a life.
Think of the lives that could be saved if all families in the Virginia
Conference bought a net for NBN. So, the challenge is to do just that. Local
congregations are asked to promote this challenge and collect money for NBN. [
