District Goals to Promote
Mission and Mission Today Units for 2009
The Richmond
District Goal is for 75% of our units to be Mission Today Units by the end
of the year. To help attain that goal, the District Mission Team will
1)
Send mailings to presidents explaining Mission Today Units
2)
Publish articles in the WORD concerning Mission Today
3)
Encourage each officer to emphasize the mission goals of her area
We commit to
promote Social Justice as mission by
1)
Promoting attendance and participation at the United Methodist Day at
General Assembly on February 5
2)
Supporting the Responding to the Family and Domestic Violence Seminar
on April 25
3)
Encouraging each unit to have a Children’s Sabbath observance, using
material from the Children’s Defense Fund
4)
Promoting awareness of environmental issues and encouraging advocacy
programs and involvement in the Green Team
We commit to
these additional actions to promote education and involvement in mission:
1)
Use the Prayer Calendar at all Executive Committee meetings and
District meetings
2)
Encourage units to observe a UMW Sunday once a year
3)
Encourage units to use UMW resources about the Reading Program,
Response magazine, Prayer Calendar and the WORD District newsletter
4)
Encourage units to participate in mission trips planned by the
District
5)
Promote and encourage attendance at District and Conference meetings,
including the School of Christian Mission
6)
Promote and encourage units to attend the Mini-School of Christian
Mission on September 11
7)
Ignite enthusiasm for increasing membership within units
8)
Encourage units to make and meet their Pledge to Mission
9)
Explore ways to present the District Visitation Program to units |
