CONGRATULATIONS!! YOU DID IT! Thanks to your generosity, the Virginia Conference made our Pledge to Missions for 2009. Our total Mission Giving for the year was $762,000.07.
That's a lot of food, clothing, and shelter for women, children, and youth around the globe!!!
The Mission Giving of United Methodist Women supports mission projects and mission personnel around the world. with your Mission Giving, you help to relieve suffering, and to make the world a better place for women, children and youth. There are five channels of Mission Giving: Pledge to Mission Special Mission recognition Gift to Mission Gift in Memory World Thank Offering plus Candleburning
The Candle Burning Program is offered by the Virginia Conference as a 6th channel of Mission Giving. Persons may donate funds in honor and in memory of loved ones. Each year at Annual Meeting, a candle is burned for the number of hours funded through this channel of giving, @ .52 per second. Amounts for 2010 (as of November 2009) One year = $16,540,397.00 One day = $45,316.00 One hour = $1,888.00 Five minutes = $157.35 One minute = $31.47 One second = $.52
The Virginia Conference United Methodist Women is starting the Rainbow Giver Program in 2010. This is an opportunity for you, as an individual, to personally give to the 5 Channels of Mission Giving: Your gift of $ 60.00 will make you a Rainbow Giver:
It is so easy to become a Rainbow Giver; just fill out the form on the back and give the form to your unit treasurer with a check for $ 60.00. On the form please specify which Gift to Mission Card you want and the name of the recipient of the Special Mission Recognition pin. This form and the $ 60.00 should be given to your treasurer at one time, not spread out over the year. Anyone can become a Rainbow Giver; this is an opportunity for church members, spouses, or friends to participate in UMW Mission Giving. This award is not to replace your Pledge and World Thank Offering, but is giving you, as an individual, an opportunity to contribute to all the areas of Mission Giving. To be recognized as a Rainbow Giver at your Annual meeting in 2010, please give this form to your Unit Treasurer by August 15, 2010. If you have questions about becoming a Rainbow Giver, please call the Virginia Conference Treasurer, Hatsy Droke, at 757-851-2133, or contact your district treasurer.
