FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK:
Dear
Sisters in the Faith:
The months of spring and summer have finally come to the Virginia
Conference and we look forward to all that is ahead for United Methodist Women
in the coming months.
During the past three months we have all been busy fulfilling our
Purpose and planning for the future. In January your Mission Team set goals
for the next two years. They are printed in your Annual Report. We spent a lot
of time looking at the goals for the last two years, and how much we had
accomplished. Then, we looked ahead at what we wanted to accomplish in the
next two years.
The United Methodist Day at the General Assembly was a great
success this year with a large attendance and a well-planned day for all who
were able to attend. This is an important project that United Methodist Women
have long helped to sponsor.
As your president I have spent a lot of time in meetings during the
first four months of this year. I have been learning how the Common Table and
the Boards that I serve on work and how we are connected as United Methodist
Women.
In March we held our Executive Meeting at Ferrum College and we
were able to visit Henry Fork Service Center. I told our executive committee
that we are called as United Methodist Women to be passionate about our
purpose and to rekindle the flame of mission work our foremothers began 137
years ago. One of our personal goals for the Mission Team is more time in
prayer and Bible study.
In April the Mission Team took a group to M.E.R.C.I. in North
Carolina. We were able to work in the warehouse packing Kits and clothing, and
in the sewing room making children’s clothing for a shipment to a mission
project out of the country.
Before we know it, we will find ourselves in Roanoke for Annual
Conference. An exciting time for Worship, Bible Study, Fellowship and doing
the work of the Virginia Conference. I hope to see many of you at the United
Methodist Women’s Breakfast. See your District President for tickets. The
program is a surprise and I know the ladies are hard at work planning and
preparing for it.
Your Mission Team will be going to The Regional School of Mission
to get ready for our Virginia Conference School of Mission. This year will be
an exciting year with studies that are so relevant to our time. Please make
plans to be with us at one of the conference sponsored schools.
Thank you for all you are doing to help meet our Conference Pledge
to Mission and for all the exciting things going on in your districts. I am so
excited when I read the districts newsletters. We are called to Rise, Shine
and Glorify God, and I am excited when I see Virginia United Methodist Women
doing that as we fulfill our purpose. “Let your light shine, and glorify
God.” Matthew 5:14-16
Blessings
and Joy,
Addie Haynes
President
